The Chassis
In this respect creative freedom
to the engineers was granted as far as possible. At the beginning of the
seventies front wheel drive was a feature of only the most daring manufacturers.
Whereas Lancia had already fitted out
the predecessor types Flavia and Fulvia in early sixties with
this concept of drivetrain. Also disc brakes at all four wheels
were a matter of course! It goes without saying that the Beta also was to
have those constructional features.
As usual, Lancia mounted the engine and transmission on a subframe, to
which an anti-roll bar was also attached. This total unit was
mounted bottom-up to the engine bay. The suspensions was a
spring-damper
combination, based as a matter of principle on the Mc Pherson struts
construction. This approved concept was adopted by Lancia for all
successor types. |
